Ma Yue, 马越 in Chinese characters, is a contemporary Chinese artists from the Northeastern province of Jilin. Born in 1968, he moved to Beijing in 1993 and there was able to take advantage of the exploding market for Chinese contemporary.
I wanted to post about Ma Yue today because among the thousands and thousands of artworks from not-so-renown artists recently floating around the art markets in China, his works stood out the most. I remember seeing this painting for the first time at the 798 art district in Beijing in October 2006 and I remember it as if it was now, for no particular reason that I can remember of, but it just “clicked”. It took a while for me to find this artist again on the world wide web but internet is amazing like always and I’m incredibly happy to be able to enjoy this painting once again.
