Go for the transparent look: Leitão_653 by Triptyque Architecture

Today we go to Brazil and to a place for those who have, literally, nothing to hide.. mainly because it is kind of transparent!

It’s called Leitão_653 and is by Triptyque Architecture

Leitão_653 is in the neighborhood of Pinheiros, in São Paulo, Brazil, a popular one combining small traditional buildings and new residential towers. This one right here is aimed at commercial/office purposes (that’s why they were brave enough to go for the transparent look) and is inserted between two lofty towers. The building is long and narrow and size-wise is 4 meters wide and 25 meters high.

Looking at the pictures, the surroundings are not the prettiest, and perhaps Leitão_653 would have matched better next to more contemporary looking blocks, but the contrast works and catches the eye. Not surprisingly, Leitão 653 was conceived as a place of inspiration while connecting with the city. The connection is made possible through this transparency, drawing in light during the day and radiating it throughout the night. Moreover, the facade plays with the city’s night lights and looks as if it was inspired by Chinese shadow play.

Triptyque is a French-Brazilian Architecture firm founded by Grégory Bousquet, Carolina Bueno, Guillaume Sibaud and Olivier Raffaelli, who all graduated from the Ecole d’Architecture de Paris-La-Seine, in France. In São Paulo since the year 2000, the firm has also been based in Paris since 2008. Triptyque faces the problematics of emerging cities, and the urge to develop a method and tools questioning and/or modifying the evolution of urban spaces and modern construction.

Triptyque’s etymology refers to the three panels’ work of art that gave plurality in the points of view, which, by that time, was innovative. The firm’s work as well is a hybridisation of many characters and disciplines that translates a constant search to surpass commonly accepted repertoires and to integrate the new deal on social and environmental responsibility.

Triptyque stood out with projects such as Harmonia 57 and Colombia 325, in Brazil. The firm’s work were presented in 2008 in Venice for the Architecture Biennale, within the “Optimiste” exhibition at the French Pavilion; and in 2010, for the AFEX prize exhibition. The firm was also invited to the Hong Kong/Shenzen’s Biennale in 2009, with “Creatures”; to the Guggenheim Museum of New York in 2010 within the exhibition called “Contemplating the Void”; and last but not least, in London for the London Festival of Architecture of 2010, with “Swarming Futures” and to the “1:1” exhibition at the V&A Museum.
